Employment Lifecycle

Summary

The confirmed Employee lifecycle begins when an employee record is created as Active. The record can be updated, reassigned, placed On Leave or Suspended, and terminated. Candidate, offer, probation, confirmation workflow, promotion workflow, exit classification, and rehire remain only partly represented or require confirmation.

Audience

  • HR managers and HR executives
  • Business analysts and product owners
  • Customer Success, solution architects, and QA engineers

Purpose

This page separates proven lifecycle behavior from the broader end-to-end employee journey that still needs business approval.

Business lifecycle

Solid arrows represent supported changes. Dashed arrows represent a concept, field, or neighboring-module process whose complete Employee business workflow is not confirmed.

Confirmed lifecycle behavior

  • Creation establishes an Active employee and records a hired/created timeline entry.
  • Core profile and employment context can be updated.
  • Department and reporting manager can be changed independently.
  • Designation can change as part of the employee's core details.
  • Status can change among Active, On Leave, Suspended, and Terminated; no restricted transition matrix is enforced by the reviewed evidence.
  • Termination makes the employee inactive while retaining the record and timeline.

Requires confirmation

  • Candidate-to-employee and offer-to-employee conversion policy.
  • Joining checklists, task ownership, and required profile completeness.
  • Probation, extension, and confirmation approval rules.
  • Promotion approval, effective dating, and compensation relationship.
  • Resignation, retirement, termination reasons, notice periods, and exit clearance.
  • Whether returning a terminated record to Active constitutes rehire or whether a new work relationship is required.

Evidence basis

The Employee aggregate and business commands confirm current-state lifecycle behavior. Recruitment ownership is confirmed, but its end-to-end handoff to Employee is not treated as approved policy.
