Enterprise Documentation Lifecycle

Summary

Documentation moves through a controlled evidence, authoring, review, approval, publication, maintenance, and archival workflow. Implementation maturity and documentation readiness are tracked independently.

Audience

  • Documentation authors, owners, reviewers, and approvers

Overview

Lifecycle controls

  1. Record scope, owners, visibility, sources, and dependencies.
  2. Inventory source and existing documentation before authoring.
  3. Create evidence-backed content as draft.
  4. Complete technical, product, security, operational, and editorial reviews as applicable.
  5. Approve only when metadata, links, validation, and evidence are complete.
  6. Publish through an authorized release process; never infer publication from approval alone.
  7. Trigger review when source, dependencies, visibility, ownership, or release state changes.
  8. Deprecate product behavior separately from archiving documentation.
  9. Archive with replacement links, route retention, and required history.
